School History

The original school was built in 1963 when the local boys and girls school amalgamated. The school building is located across from the church and the parish hall. It served a large area of the rural parish of Laragh.

In 1974, Carrickallen National School amalgamated with Laragh National School and in 1975, Caulfield National School did likewise.

In 2012 the School opened a fabulous new extension to the existing building consisting of 4 spacious classrooms, a Learning Support room, a Resource room, a Principal's Office, a Secretary’s Office, Staff toilets and a new PE Hall.

The Board of Management of past and present had been endeavouring to secure this New Building for a long number of years.

Board of Management

Staff and Pupils

There are at present 128 children on the roll. The school is run by the Board of Management and has a Parents Association. It does not receive additional grant aid under the Department of Education and Skills initiative for areas of disadvantage.

The majority of pupils arrive to school by car with a Bus Eireann school bus service accommodating the remainder.

We have a teaching staff of 5 Mainstream Teachers, a Learning Support Teacher and a part-time Resource Teacher.

There are 3 SNA’s appointed to the school and a part-time secretary.
